'East is best' at Cup Match winner's parade
More than 200 people came out on Friday night to help the St George’s Cricket Club celebrate its Cup Match win.
Leading a parade from King’s Square to the club, captain Oronde Bascome rode the streets of St George’s on a horse while dozens of fans followed him in song.
Players, coaches, members and St George’s residents celebrated their win against Somerset in last week’s annual Classic where the home team won the match.
There have been draws since 2005.
Once Bascome entered the field, the crowd erupted in applause and more song as they walked the field to the club.
The players were called to the podium by president Neil Paynter with cheering from the fans again.
Buju Banton’s ‘Til I’m Laid to Rest’ was played as many people sang along to the lyrics which include ‘I know the east is best’.
Players were then presented with gifts and awards from the club.
